Can you use a different dvd player for an all in one home theater system?

alright,, i just recently got the samsung htdm150 from my uncle,, and about 45 minutes into a movie it just completly freezes, i cant press any buttons or anything,, the screen is black but you can still see the numbers on the little screen telling you how far into the movie I've gotten.. anywase i think it just overheats because the fan in the back doesn't move at all,, so i bought an lg up-converting dvd player to use instead to take a load off the samsung dvd player,, i have it plugged in like so, component cables from the lg to the t.v,,,, and then just a red and white one from the lg to the samsung,, but when i play a movie it wont let me get full surround sound. only the front two speakers,, anywase is there a way to get my lg dvd player to work on the samsung and still get full suround sound.

Basically no. Typically all in one HT/DVD systems have the receiver/amplifier and DVD player built together in the same case. Standalone DVD players don't have built in amplifiers and therefore are not capable of directly running speakers. You must use a separate receiver now to run your surround sound speakers. I recommend the ONKYO SR-800, it comes with a 7.1 receiver that puts out 100 watts to each of the seven channels, 7 voice-matched speakers and a powered subwoofer for under 500 dollars. Just go to circuit city's site and check out the reviews. Good luck with your project.
